Budget maternity fashion tips: Accessorise with a scarf

Jonathan Suanders S/S 2013
Scarves have been wrapping their way around the fashion world for a good few years now providing a great way to update a tired or bland outfit.

This season they made their way to the top of the 2013 must-have accessories list with Marc Jacobs, Jonathan Saunders and Louis Vuitton just some of the designers to show off this trend on the catwalks.

And these reasonably priced gems are perfect for that maternity wardrobe on a budget.

Updating a simple top with an on-trend patterned or bold coloured scarf will give it a new lease of life, meaning you don't need to splash out on hundreds of maternity tops. And the same applies to that trusty black or block colour dress.

We also love the fact that you can continue to wear these after the birth, as well as consider them as a subtle breastfeeding aid.

Buy one or two scarves and mix and match for an instant style update.

Below are just a few of our faves.

Spring/summer 2013 maternity trends: Orange

Carolina Herrera, S/S 2013
The brighter the better is the moto for this season, with striking hues appearing on highstreet rails.

Taking  inspiration from the sixties, orange was a key  summer 2013 colour on the catwalks of Louis Vuitton, Moschino and Versace.

And the great thing is that this trend can easily be worked into any summer maternity wardrobe.
The key is to make sure you don't clash or overdo it.

Pick an orange maternity dress and team up with black or white sandals or heels, while orange skinny jeans look great partnered with a maternity vest top or tee.

If you want to keep it simple then pairing an orange maternity top with a pair of indigo skinny jeans is also a great option.

If you're still not feeling brave enough to show off this look you can still give a nod to the  trend with a simple swipe of orange lippy or orange nails.

See some of our fave orange maternity picks below.

Top five maternity summer trench coats and macs

Phillip Lim SS 2013
Dear weather, all we'd like is a week of sun.

A week where we can get our pins out, bask in the warm rays of summer and not have to worry about taking out a maternity jacket or brolly.

However, we do know that we live in Britain and this is probably as unlikely as storks bringing in our impending bundles of joy.

Take advantage of the weather and show off the spring/summer 2013 trend channelled by the likes of Phillip Lim and Balenciaga with a maternity mac or trench coat.

Lightweight and waterproof, these classic items are perfect for any wardrobe keeping you dry during the summer showers, while being cool enough to ensure you and your bump don't overheat.

Pick a classic colour that will match your wardrobe and grow with you bump throughout those damp summer days.
