Maternity fashion analysis: Kate Middleton vs Kim Kardashian. Vote and let us know who you think dresses their bump better.

There seems to be a baby boom amongst celebrities at the moment with some of our faves sporting bumps in a range of maternity fashions.

Two of the most high profile are of course Kate Middleton and Kim Kardashian who have both been taking up fashion inches for  very different reasons.

The Duchess of Cambridge, who has been spotted showing off her baby bump in a range of classic styles, has been praised for her demure maternity fashion, while Kim Kardashian who has opted for leather skirts and peplum trousers, has been shot down for her mistakes.

On the face of it, many would be quick to say Kate wins the maternity fashion war, but, we aren't inclined to agree.

Like her style before she became pregnant, Kate has stuck to simplicity and
classic pieces, while also giving a nod to her recycling roots. And most of the time she's been photographed in a coat. She was spotted in a blue embellished coat in Baker Street Underground in March, while her Goat Regrave Coat covered her Topshop contrast collar dress at the Coat, Child Bereavement UK HQ, in the same month. For St Patrick's Day she opted for another coat- this time by Emilia Wickstead, and a Pink Joseph coat completed her look at the Cheltenham races.

Of course it would be unfair for us to judge soley on this, after all we know it hasn't been the warmest weather, and Kate has been spotted browsing the rails of Seraphine Maternity, where she apparently admired a lightweight jersey dress with a stretchy empire line cut and butterfly sleeves as well as buying a non-maternity floral dress from a Topshop concession. But, like the Max Mara wrap dress she showed her bump off in earlier this year, these styles are all very Kate.

And it seems her growing bump hasn't encouraged her to be a little bit more playful with her style.

Kim Kardashian on the other hand has had plenty of fun with her maternity fashion.

She may not have always got it right,  a few examples of her faux pas being the leather skirt she recently squeezed into and the peplum trousers she opted for earlier this year, not to mention the monochrome dress that looked more tent than tunic, however, at least she's had fun with her bump and embraced her curves.

And when she's got it right, we're afraid to say she blown Kate's maternity style out of the water. This weekend she showed off her curves in a gorgeous Valentino red lace dress, as well as skinny jeans and a lace top. She may be in warmer climes but, take note Kate, there's not been a coat in site.

Who do you think has the best maternity fashion? Vote below and let us know.

Get the look: Sheer maternity top spotted on pregnant Halle Berry and Kim Kardashian

The sheer maternity top has made an appearance on the pregnant celebrity circuit this week.

Newly pregnant Halle Berry channelled this trend showing off her baby bump and bra in a sheer top, which she teamed up with a pair of leather trousers and heels, showing all mums-to-be that maternity fashion doesn't have to be safe.

Kim Kardashian also showed that she can make some great maternity fashion choices when she was spotted sporting a sheer top during a trip to the gym.

Get the celebrity look with this cute sheer maternity blouse from Asda, which is a snip at £12. If you can't face the leather look trousers then team up with a pair of black skinnies for a sophisticated look.

Opting for a simple black vest top underneath will also ensure you stay bang on celebrity maternity trend without flashing your bra.

Get the look: Pregnant Black Eyed Peas' Fergie's aztec print maternity style

Fergie hasn't hidden away her baby bump, sporting a range of cool outfits to flatter her new curves.

The Black Eyed Peas singer was recently quoted as saying her pregnancy style wasn't just about maternity clothes, claiming that she often opted for funky ranges, which reflected her usual "rock 'n' roll style".

And she demonstrated this perfectly last week when she showed off her bump in an Aztec print kaftan on Ipanema Beach in Brazil.

We've decided to take a leaf out of Fergie's non maternity book and spotted this gorge Aztec print maxi, £15, from Boohoo, which channels the stars look perfectly as well as being a great option to show off your bump.

Wear over a bikini on that summer holiday or simply keep it for those  hot UK summer days.

Spring/Summer 2013 trends: Printed maternity leggings and trousers, monochrome, geometric, floral and more

Peter Pilotto S/S 2013
Show off your bump in one of this season's  hottest trends with a pair of printed trousers.

The summer 2013 catwalks were gleaming with this style, with the likes of Peter Pilotto, Matthew Williamson, Moschino Cheap and Chic and House of Holland just a handful of designers showcasing this look.

Florals, bold block prints, monochrome geometrics, stripes and zig zags are just some of the prints that have filtered into the highstreet  and maternity world with Kim Kardashian and Peaches Geldof spotted showing off their bumps in a pair of printed trousers or leggings.

The key to this look is to keep the top part simple. Opt for a simple vest or tee in one colour and keep footwear to flats.

For a night out add a pair of simple heels and a one tone blazer.

Maternity monochrome fashion for Spring/Summer 2013

Moschino Spring/Summer 2013
Monochrome made a huge style stance on this season's catwalks, showing that sometimes things really do look better in black and white.

Alexander Wang, Moschino, Marc Jacobs and Diane von Furstenberg, were just some of the designers to show off the 60s inspired trend, while over in the celebrity maternity fashion camp Kim Kardashian did her bit for the look stepping out in a cute black and white print shift dress.

Thankfully this trend can interpreted to be as bold or as simple as you like, making it perfect for that maternity wardrobe.

Opt for graphic prints to give a big nod to the swinging 60s, with a checked print or bold stripes for a night out, while simple stark contrast blocking is a great way to channel this trend into the daytime - team up that must have black maternity dress with a simple white scarf and you're all set to go.

See the gallery below on how to wear the trend.

Go for graphic prints to really make a stand. We think this 60s inspired skirt, £18,  from Asos is great

Turn  that staple black maternity dress, like this one £16.99, New Look, into hot monochrome property by simply adding a white scarf.

White scarf, £6 Matalan

This spot blouse, £32 Mamas and Papas,  is a perfect way to channel the trend in the office, or teamed with black jeans for a night out

Really show off this trend and your bump with this gorge bodycon frock, £30, Asos

2013 is still young, but we're already excited about what the celebrity mummy world has in store for us this year, with a range of stars due to give birth in the upcoming months.

Towards the end of last year, we were delighted to hear that Kate Middleton was pregnant, while Kim Kardashian and Jessica Simpson both announced they too were expecting little bundles in 2013.

And let's not forget other yummy mummies such as Lara Stone, Sophie Dahl and of course Fearne Cotton who are all rocking maternity fashion due to their expanding bellies.

To celebrate the new year, we've put together a list of our top five yummy mummies to-be for 2013. We can't wait to see what they'll be wearing in the upcoming months.

Fearne is now in her last stages of pregnancy and has given us some great maternity fashion looks. We love this dressing gown photo, which shows that even pregnant celebs need some downtime too. Click here to get a similar look.
Towards the end of the year St James Palace announced that Kate Middleton was expecting her first child with Prince William, we're so happy for the couple, and we have a feeling the announcement will change maternity fashion as we know it. We can't wait. Check out some Kate Middleton inspired evening maternity dresses here.

Sophie and James confirmed they are expecting baby two, after Sophie was spotted out late last year revealing her growing bump.

Lara Stone and hubby David Walliams announced they were expecting their first child in the middle of 2013. See here for what we expect Lara to be channelling as her bump grows.

Kanye West announced the news on stage during a concert in Atlantic City when Kim Kardashian was in the audience watching. The papa-to-be said: 'stop the music. Make noise for my baby mama right here.'  We know Kim will make a great style icon for curvy pregnant women everywhere. In the meantime see our guide on how to dress your maternity curves.
